Breadfruit - fruits from this tree are spherical, green from the outside with yellow flesh. The weight of one can reach up to 2 kg and is the size of a large melon.

The breadfruit fruit can be eaten raw, boil, bake, and also pickled. They are a great source of vitamin C, they also contain a lot of fat and starch.

Morphology

Cut:
A tree growing up to 25 m in height

Leaves:
Dark green and shiny, whole edge, up to 15 cm long.

Fruits:
They grow straight from the trunk, reach 30-90 cm in length, 20-25 cm in diameter 
and usually 5-10 kg in weight, exceptionally up to 35 kg. Fruit covered with numerous short and blunt spikes. One fruit contains 100-600 seeds.

 

 

Biology
Evergreen plant. The tissues contain milk juice. It reproduces by means of seeds.

Application

  • Wood: Valued in furniture making, reminiscent of mahogany.
  • Edible plant: The fruit of the loaves tree (jacquard) is usually eaten fresh, after drying or in the form of jam. Yellow or pink, sticky and sweet but very intensely fragrant flesh, as well as large, brown seeds are suitable for consumption.
  • A yellow dye is obtained from wood, used in Thailand to dye the robes of Buddhist monks.
  • Cultivation: It is grown in India and Indonesia also.
